Giles Thorne is the Head of European Internet research, with 20 years of experience in banking and 16 years in equity research. He re-joined Jefferies in February 2012, first in Telecoms before transitioning to Internet in 2018. Weng Lum Khoo joined the team as an associate in Aug-24 and has supported coverage of the sector.

What We Are Known For

  • Primary research. We carry out our own primary research to understand the fundamental operations of the business from the ground-up. The highlight of this work is our “My Week…” series of notes, first published in 2019 with the seminal note, “My Week Delivering For Deliveroo”. This has included stints delivering food for Uber Eats and staking out a Getir dark store.
  • Thematic Research. We produce thematic research that allow for multi-year investment frameworks. Our recent outlook notes across Online Food Delivery, Online Classifieds and AI speak to this as we aim to frame key investor debates and revisit them, as and when the individual sector themes evolve.
  • The FOODIE and The TRADER are our weekly newsletters: the FOODIE, for the eFood names, and the TRADER, for online classifieds names. They provide a summary of relevant news flow in the recent weeks, looking at any sector developments, often with a tongue-in-cheek perspective, and how they add / detract from prevailing debates on the names in our coverage.
