Jefferies Expands Investment Banking Effort in Media & Communications; Team of Four Professionals Joins, Mark Leavitt To Lead Group

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 16, 2005--Jefferies & Company, Inc., the principal operating subsidiary of Jefferies Group, Inc. (NYSE: JEF), today announced that the firm has hired a team of four investment bankers to expand its focus on media and communications companies. Mark A. Leavitt joins as a Managing Director and will head Jefferies' Media & Communications Group in Investment Banking.

Media & Communications has long been one of the firm's areas of focus. With inclusion of its European affiliate, Jefferies has eight research analysts and five securities traders dedicated to the area. Mr. Leavitt will assume leadership of the firm's effort in Investment Banking, which includes several other senior banking professionals. The group will concentrate on wireless, wireline, cable, telecom services, data services, satellite, and media companies.

The four senior bankers joining Jefferies have worked together for seven years, most recently at Robertson Stephens and SG Cowen, where Mr. Leavitt was also head of the Media & Communications Group. In addition to Mr. Leavitt, these professionals include Peter A. Lombard, a Managing Director who will head Media & Communications M&A activities, and two Senior Vice Presidents, Gregory L. Dawkins and Robert E. Cockburn.

Prior to Jefferies, Mr. Leavitt has spent over 20 years providing investment banking services to clients in Media & Communications. He received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1983 and graduated from Trinity College in 1980.
